Have you seen people walking around with bizarre purple circles on their backs? They have probably had a recent Traditional Chinese Medicine Cupping treatment!

Cupping is a of Traditional Chinese Medicine and can be used for a variety of conditions. Flame cupping, which is the practice of using a flame to create a vacuum in a specially made glass cup and is then quickly applied to the skin, is one of the methods used in the clinic. Flame cupping is considered to be the traditional method of cupping, however suction cupping using plastic cups may also be used in certain situations. Often light massage is accompanied with a cupping treatment.

In ancient China, cupping was used for a variety of problems, including:

- Colds and flus

- Muscle aches and pains

- Headaches

- Upper back and neck tension

- Digestive and gynaecological dysfunctions

Cupping can be done as a stand alone treatment or can be incorporated as part of your regular acupuncture session.
